Many club teams from Eastern Southland today travelled to Balclutha to play Football.

This is an annual exchange between the 2 areas with everyone playing for the ultimate prize of the CRT Cup.

Teams from St Mary's, Gore Main, West Gore, Wyndale, Riversdale and Junior Wanderers all dragged themselves out of bed nice & early to head to Balclutha with the first games starting at 10am.

Thankfully the weather gods were pretty kind with no icy Roads to contend with.

The grounds were in good condition and the sun broke through the clouds every now and then to add a bit more warmth on what was a lovely winter’s day.

It was great to see the look of enthusiasm & determination on the faces of many of our players.

For the 8th Grade teams this was their first experience at a tournament so playing 3 shorter games was totally new for them. I am sure they will all sleep well tonight.

The majority of games were close and many games resulted in a draw.

After 3 games for the 8th -12th grades a large crowd gathered to watch the last match of the day, the 14th Grade game. Our side played well and we eventually lost 2 -1 following a hard fought game.

2010 will be a year that will be remembered for an especially tight competition with the eventual winner coming down to Goal Differential after being tied on Points.
The breakdown is below:

Unfortunately we were unable to retain the Trophy and the CRT Cup was handed over to South Otago by a local CRT Representative.

Overall it was a good family day out and it was great to see so many families making a day of it. There was the odd picnic basket in the back of the car and South Otago provided a canteen with plenty of food & drink for those that wanted it.

Thanks must go out to the South Otago organisers, days like this don't just happen there is a LOT of work that goes on behind the scenes.

Thanks also to the Coaches/Managers who got their teams organised to be there, the Referees and Maria Hurrell our photographer for the day.

Looking forward to next year when we at Eastern Southland host South Otago at Gore.
