Southland's Southern Stars won
the womens division at the
Dunedin Masters games.
Tom Jones (left) and Karl Lambert (right) were not called on to play.
Or were they ??????

Spirit FC was re-kindled in
2006 and central defender John (mad-dog)
McCarroll (blue 5) is seen here scoring a contender for goal of the season.

In a season of not too many
highlights for Spirit FC, former All-White (1982) Ken Cresswell
donned the keepers gear for the crucial return game against Queenstown at
the resort town.
Did a great job and the lads came home with a well earned point from a 2-2 draw.
..
Our near
neighbours from Queenstown had a stellar season for them, going the whole
campaign without losing a game.
Lots of drawn ones though and that cost them dearly and frustrated coach
Steve Henderson (right) - finishing 3rd in the comp.

Queens Park took on the power
of Dunedin's Roslyn Wakari in a Chatham Cup
tie and nearly caused a boil-over.
John Hunter makes a point here to Park's Cory Johnson.

This injury time penalty from
Roslyn killed off the Park hopes.
But 1-2 was a top effort from the local lads.

Harry, Gunther and Jed took
their place at the Northern Tavern's
World Cup final "breakfast do" and as the Anglo-German supporters they are
look pretty grim in this pic. And rightly so.

Queens Park won the main
trophy, the "battered" Donald Gray cup, and
Cammy Johnson was first to get a drink from it.
The rest of the Park lads enjoyed the fizzy as well.

Leading New Zealand Junior
harness reinsman Jonny Cox lead the way
in the Donald Gray goal-scoring race, and would have distanced the
field but for his horsey work clashing with several games.

Old Boys Nicole McMath was the
leading goal scorer in women's football
and in my judgement would have secured player of the year (if they had one...)
Which I hope they will revive in 2007.
..
Grant Smith (left) did a
magnificent job in managing the new College Football
league along with the School coordinators.
This comp, if it develops as it should, will be the saviour of Football in the
South I reckon.
At right, Old Boys striker Campbell Edwards (red) caused havoc among defenders
in
Saturday morning youth football, Saturday afternoon Div 1 football,
the College League, South-Island age group rep football and in a couple
of Premier League games when he got playing time.
Not bad huh.......

The girls in Black took a trip
down from Gore to support Gore High on a Saturday
and in doing so added a little glamour to the side-line.
Although Gore coach Paul Hodge could look good in black.....hmmmm

Jeff Walker (above) has seen
out the last of his time as Southland Soccer (inc')
Chairman. He has held the role since its inception in 2000 and will genuinely be
missed as his legal and leadership experience is second to none.
I personally thank him for setting up and strengthening the organisation.
What happens now worries me a bit.
