There was plenty of drama throughout the Soccersouth Premier League comp.
Particularly when Spirit's Stevie Black (left) and the comp's eventual
golden boot winner Tim Cook clashed heads in the Cavie v Spirit clash
at Tonga Park.
It didn't look (or sound) good, but both recovered and continued on.

There were lots of goals too and Spirit's John Schol was amongst them frequently,
but sadly for Spirit FC there were lots of near misses as well.
Like this Adam Letts effort that scraped the post and let Queenstown off the hook.

The Junior Wanderers club was formed and presented its 2007 coaching
team (seen above) at a function in the Hyde Park club rooms.
It's teams contested 4 Southland wide competitions with some success.
Winners:
14th to 16th comp, 15th comp & 15th knockout comp.
Runners up:
13th comp & 13th knockout comp
12th comp
11th comp & 11th knockout comp

Former Southland footballer of the year Tom Kent (left) absconded to Dunedin to
further his education. He played for Soccersouth in the National youth league
and Roslyn Wakari in the Soccersouth Premier.

Tom's younger bro Stuart gained selection in the Otago Youth team that headed off to
Northern Ireland for the Milk Cup tourney and so played the bulk
of his football for that team in the Soccersouth Premier.

NZ Soccer saw sense and finally reverted back to NZ Football
much to the delight of us oldies who are just routed in tradition.
Football is the name of the beautiful game......

Scottie Barry Gardiner delighted us all with action like this and was well worth the
investment as an import for Spirit FC.....However

Someone thought his leg was round and made of vinyl and he ended up like this.
2 breaks in the lower leg and out of action for round two.
He shrugged off the blues though and proved invaluable as a Spirit FC
squad member but more importantly as coaching mentor for Juniors.
He'll be back....as they say

"OUR-BALL"

Southland and Eastern Southland went to Ashburton for the Japan Cup tourney
and despite the rain and bitterly cold conditions enjoyed the experience and bonded well.
Above: Southland and Hasoe teams enjoy the aftermatch.
Below While Eastern and Osaka do the same.
Editors Note: Im not sure if they have swapped shirts or not it's hard to tell.

Ecstasy for Roslyn and dejection for Old Boys as after an epic struggle
the Dunedin visitors put the reds away in the Chatham Cup.
A red letter day for the reds though as they now have their name on the
Churchill Rosebowl, a first in the club's history.

Gerard Wyering (3rd from left back row) took Southend United to another Senior men's
title in his debut season in the coaching role.
In a good year for the club it also finished with the Larry O'Rorke challenge cup
and the dosh for defending it the most times.

Johnny Schol - left (as if I needed to put that...) and Nicole McMath grabbed the respective
Footballer Of The Year Awards and deservedly so.

"THE WINNERS"
James Hargest 1st 11 boys, James Hargest girls,
Wakatipu reserves and Wakatipu juniors.

The College League was another huge success and in my totally unbiased judgement
it won't be long before SBHS will stamp its authority on the comp.
That's of course an opinion from someone who was educated at the great institute.
Go Titch.......
Anyway, in the meantime there's no stopping James Hargest who again took out
the Boys and Girls Premier comps with our friendly neighbours from Wakatipu High
securing the Reserve and Junior honours.

The last word goes to this fella.......
Once again as he did in 2006 Grant Smith did a magnificent job
in managing the new College Football league along with the School coordinators.
