"After all it's about enjoyment and the thrill of the kill"

Queens Park were the
champs alright winning the Pre-season cup, the
Southland Finance premier Donald Gray cup the Charity cup
and the O'Rorke trophy.

Barry Gardiner (left) returned from his recuperation back home in Scotland
from his double leg break as Director Of Football and Spirit FC
"marquee player"

Ah the refs...Our local lads travelled a lot
to Queenstown and Dunedin which was
great for their development but thinned the ranks down here.
And let's face it they are a happy bunch and enjoy what they do.
Dean Seager (Left) Brent Best (Dunedin, Middle) and Wayne Rayner full of smiles.

Cavy won the Soccersouth Premier with ease, and Spirit's strategy of
putting five markers on each Cavy player didn't work as the 12-0 score
would suggest.

Danny Rosel from Queens Park was Footballer Of
The Year.
Head and shoulders above the rest, just like here.

Kate Allison (red) was Women's Player Of The Year.
She led a good Old Boys team to the title and with style like this
you can see why.

Scotty Morton had a turn in goal and in the style of Tottenham's
Heurelho Gomes saved a penalty...all arse no class.

Queens Park went ever so close to
knocking high flyers Roslyn out of
the Chatham Cup until Terry Boylan (red) and his mates
showed their class with a late blitz of goals
and had Park defending in numbers.

their Friday Night comedy show.
Tony was forced to passionately plea for Tottenham fans to stop hounding him
later in
the year (Dec 19th it was) when the team he had fun berating found some form.
That didn't include me cos' I never thought they were out of form...just a lull.

The crucial Old Boys Queens Park game was snowed off

Two weeks later Park celebrated by
doing a "snow job" on their Old Boys rivals.
and snatched the 2008 title.

Two youngsters that really
impressed me the couple of times I watched them were
Left: Sammy Murrell (Old Boys) and Right: Aaron Ruru (Jnr Wanderers)

Mary Fraser (center red) scored four goals in the College Final and was the
"Golden Boot" everywhere she went.
And for the record she was also the Tin Man in the Wizard Of Oz characters
at the Invercargill Christmas Parade.
(I don't miss much....)

Two old young Southlanders,
Chris Marsh (left) and Aaron Burgess (right)
got together again in the NZ National Championship
when Otago player Manawatu
