TOPICS:
Southland Premier League
- having 5 teams compete in this competition was better than the 4 in 2008
- need to increase number of teams participating in this level either by clubs putting themselves forward or promotion from Division 1
- Spirit Academy’s involvement in the competition there was positives and negatives of this concept. After much discussion all clubs involved in DG Premier indicated that they would prefer that a Spirit Academy team did not participate in 2010.
Spirit FC Senior Team
- concept & structure supported by all clubs represented at the review
- clubs would currently struggle to support a Footballsouth Premier team given the limited number of committed quality players that reside in Southland. Maybe option in the future as numbers increase.
- Import players to be used again in 2010 with possible wider training squad
- Possibly train on Mondays & Wednesday so players can also train with clubs
Division 1 & 2
- numbers of teams good
- ideal would be 2-3 teams move up from Division 2 to Division 1 create 10 teams in Division 2, 8 in Division 1 & 6 in Premier League
- Master’s grade in 2010? Not something clubs want to see.
Start of Season & Format competitions
- prefer round robin competitions than top 4 play offs
- pre season played in March and not into April
- Competition starts as soon as possible in April
- Possible promotion/relegation to determine which league teams play in.
Referees
- Need to increase numbers of refs
- Clubs to nominate candidates for refereeing based on number of teams
- Funding available to support recruitment & support for referees
- Clubs need to take responsibility of the players/supporters abusing refs
- More visible ‘Code of Conduct’ within clubs
Judiciary Process
- Need for improved processing and transparency.
- Clubs accepted the need for a hard line approach to dealing with all abusive and threatening behaviour.
- Southland Football to set up a separate committee to deal with issues at all levels of the sport.
- Judiciary Committee members to be nominated and approved by clubs with an independent chair.
Grades players play in
Rules & regulations relating to what grade players play in and players moving up & down grades needs reviewing before 2010
