ILT Spirit FC 1, Mosgiel 5;
and Donald Gray wrap;
As
expected Queens Park took out the 2006 Southland Soccer Donald Gray cup for
premier football on Saturday taking maximum points from its final game against
the Southend United development team.

Park coach John Hunter...well done mate.
It
was a hollow victory to end the Southland Premier club season as Southend could
not muster enough players and defaulted the game.
The
result should in no way detract from the Ascot Tavern sponsored Queens Park
teams effort this year adding the prestigious premier honour to the Charity cup
it won in the early season competition.
And
who could forget its valiant attempt to stay in the NZ wide Chatham cup
competition going down 2-1 with a last kick of the game penalty against
eventual quarter finalist Roslyn Wakari.

A
few of the lads take time out from an after-match beer or two
at the Ascot Tavern.
I was asked why I never mentioned Joe Young in my preview.
That's him behind Cory with the eye's shut...I rest my case.
Spirit FC was given a lesson in clinical finishing by Mosgiel in its Soccersouth premier league game at Surrey Park suffering a 5-1 defeat.
There
was an element of doubt with Mosgiel’s first goal coming from an offside
position but for the rest there was no doubt.
Spirit held its own for the first 25 minutes of the game showing little sign of early match nerves that has impeded its recent efforts.
However Mosgiel took the lead when Shane Danielson slotted home the controversial first goal. Three minutes later Any Coburn made it two with a stunning 25-metre volley that gave Spirit keeper Shane Elliott no chance of stopping.
Three
minutes from the half-time break Hayden Quinn added to the lead and gave Mosgiel
a comfortable 3-nil cushion.
Danielson
notched his second with a delightful and well placed lob over Elliott to make it
4-nil just 5 minutes into the second spell, and when Coburn rose high above the
defence to score his second and stretch the lead to 5-nil with a strong header
it seemed the game could not end quick enough for Spirit.
As if to show it may lack experience but not fortitude Spirit began to play its best football of the game and gain some domination in midfield.
It
was rewarded all too late when following a flowing move from defence the ball
reached Jason McMath on the left flank and the youngster coolly slotted it into
the path of team mate Scott Rogers who swept it into the net with precision for
Spirit’s consolation goal.
========================================
Waihopai
player coach Chris Jones grabbed his second consecutive hatrick of goals as he
once again led his team from a one goal deficit to beat Mosgiel reserves 3-1 in
their Otago Fletcher cup clash.
The
foundation for Waihopai’s fight back rested with strong games once again from
John Rikkerink, Dion Cameron and former Mosgiel player Chris Langley.
