Spirit
2 v Dn Technical 5
Dunedin Technical came and conquered at Rugby Park last night as it convincingly downed Spirit FC by five goals to two in their Soccersouth Premier league clash.
Spirit
drew first blood in the game when at the eighteen-minute mark Karl Hawkes struck
a trademark left foot shot wide of Graham Healey in the Tech goat to put his
team 1-nil ahead.
Three
minutes before halftime Tech’s Jesse Malloy levelled things up at one apiece
when he fired in a tame shot that Spirit goalkeeper Shane Elliott completely
misjudged and could only watch in horror as the ball rolled across the line.
Early in the second half Spirit allowed Ricki Chidley enough space to shoot wide of the Spirit keeper to give Tech a 2-1 lead.
The
two goals each side of halftime unsettled Spirit and while trying to regain its
composure Tech struck more telling blows with goals by Malloy (his second) and
John Lang stretching its lead to 4 goals to one.
Ryan O’Connor gave Spirit some hope when he scored eight minutes from full-time to reduce the lead to 4-2 with a goal from close range.
However,
Tech signalled they weren’t finished the job yet when just a minute later Paul
Luiz vanEijk restored the three-goal margin and completed the night’s scoring
for the 5-2 win.
Unfortunately for Spirit, striker John Schol hobbled off early in the second half and is once again in doubt for future games.
