Competition Information


  • First Kicks (ages 4-6 years)

The purpose of First Kicks is to provide early engagement for players as young as 4 years old into the game. It helps allow children the opportunity to discover the game, provide for learning basic fundamental movement skills and create positive football experiences.

First Kicks is a club based programme. Each player will be charged by the club a fee to cover affiliation.

First Kicks is held on Monday afternoons at the ILT Football Turf (Invercargill), starting in Term 2.

  • Fun Football (ages 7-8 years)

At this age, football should be primarily played in a playful environment that emphasises self-discovery. This continuity into early engagement develops crucial factors for the future of the players such as the love for the game, game intelligence and physical literacy.

Fun Football is a club based programme. Each player will be charged by the club a fee to cover affiliation.

Fun Football is held on Saturday mornings at the ILT Football Turf (Invercargill). The 2024 season will kick off on Saturday 4th May.

  • Eastern Southland Junior Football (ages 4-10 years)

The Eastern Southland Junior Football programme is a hub for First Kicks, Fun Football and Mini Football (up to 10th Grade), centralised in Gore. Gore Wanderers and Wyndham Town FC are the two clubs who make up this hub.

Eastern Southland Junior Football is a club based programme. Each player will be charged by the club a fee to cover affiliation.

Eastern Southland Junior Football is held at either Hyde Park (Gore), or Menzies College (Wyndham). 2024 season dates are yet to be confirmed.

  • Mini Football (ages 9-12 years)

The McDonald’s Mini Football player will play games with motivational and competitive challenges, with a growing emphasis placed on the learning of technical skills. Game days tend be more focused on the matches themselves, with 7v7 and 9v9 team sizes providing appropriate building blocks to the 11v11 format of youth football.

Mini Football is a club based programme. Each player will be charged by the club a fee to cover affiliation.

Fun Football is held on Saturday mornings at the ILT Football Turf (Invercargill), Moores Reserve (Winton), Hyde Park (Gore) or Menzies College (Wyndham). The 2024 season will kick off on Saturday 4th May.
